About

My specialities

I have a long history in the museum and education sectors. My specialities are short, informative interpretative videos and documentation of events. I have also worked extensively with individual artists.

Understanding of the public sector educational environment

I've been working in the museum sector since 1984. From 2003-2019 this was as head of the documentation department in the Learning Team at BALTIC. Before that I worked at the BBC, the British Museum, Bristol Art Library and the Wandle Industrial Museum, This has given me a great understanding of the best practices for producing accessible learning content. I am committed to providing high-quality digital educational material.

100s of videos produced

I have no idea how many videos I have made but it's certainly in the high-100s. These range from complex documentaries that take months to produce, to shorter, simpler ones that can be finished in a few days, to straightforward documentation of a single-speaker talk, interviews, vox pops etc.

Friendly and professional

Few people like having a camera thrust in their faces. I always try to make the filming experience as relaxed as possible. It doesn't matter how many takes we have to do, I always aim to make the speaker look as good as possible in the final edit. After all, if they look good then I look good at my job. I believe in putting people at ease and giving them time to shine as themselves.

Working on my feet

Although most videos need careful pre-planning, sometimes this kind of interpretive video often evolves during the shoot. Sticking to the brief is fundamental but my years of experience have taught me how to follow an important, unexpected thread and not get constricted by a script. Often these unexpected moments are the best bits of the video. Finding gems in post-production that improve the story, I would say is one of my biggest assets.

Fast turnaround

I'm good at working to tight deadlines and can produce videos very quickly (depending on the complexity) if required.

Subtitling

All videos can have industry-standard embedded (or .srt files for closed caption) subtitles if desired.

Enhanced DBS

I have a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate
